For iPhone · Friendship first

Someone nearby loves bouldering

NOW tells you when someone who shares your interests is close by. Nothing happens until you both say yes.

Free. Beta on TestFlight. Your spot on the map is always blurred, about 300 m off.

A friendship app for the people already around you.

  • No swiping
  • No photos
  • No names until you've met

How it works

From “someone nearby” to “we met” in five steps

  1. 1

    Go open to meet

Heading out? Show up on the map for one to three hours. People see a rough area, never your exact spot. When the time's up, you're off the map.

  2. 2

Someone who shares an interest is close

When someone within about a kilometre loves the same thing you do, NOW gives you a gentle nudge. You see what you have in common, never a name or a face.

  3. 3

    You both say yes

Nothing happens until you both choose to meet. If only one of you says yes, the other never knows.

  4. 4

    Walk over with the compass

An arrow and a distance take you the last stretch. Hold to talk on the walkie-talkie when you're close, or send a quick signal like “Wearing a blue jacket”.

  5. 5

    Say “yes, we met”

Tap it after you meet and they join your Circle, if you both want that. Names and contact details are shared only when you each choose to.

The last stretch

Finding each other is part of the app

Crowds, malls and busy streets make meeting a stranger hard. NOW handles the part every other app leaves to you.

Compass

An arrow points the way and the distance counts down as you walk. Exact location turns on only after you both say yes, and only for that meetup.

Walkie-talkie

Talk while you close the distance. Nothing is recorded and there's no call history.

Quick signals

Tell them what you're wearing in one tap. Only they see it, only for this meetup. No chat, no small talk before you meet.

Your Circle

The people you've actually met, with a private note to remember them by. Ask to meet again whenever you're both around.

Privacy

You decide who sees you, and when

Meeting strangers only works if it feels safe. These rules are built into how NOW works, so you don't have to set them up.

~300 m
Your spot is always blurred. Pins snap to a rough area. Nobody sees where you are exactly.
0
Names before you meet. Until you've both said “yes, we met” and chosen to stay in touch, you're just “someone who loves chess”.
0
Photos, ever. People meet the person, not the picture.
1 meetup
Exact location and voice, after two yeses. They switch on when you both agree and switch off when either of you ends it.

Something felt off? Report or block anyone from their card, at any time.

What are you into?

Pick a few. NOW looks for people nearby who picked them too.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is NOW a dating app?

No. NOW is for making friends who like the same things you do. There are no photos, no swiping and no romance features.

Can people see where I live?

No. You only appear on the map while you're open to meet, and even then your pin is a rough area about 300 m off. Pins disappear when your time is up.

What if I don't want to meet someone?

Then don't say yes. Nothing happens unless you both choose to meet, and the other person is never told that you passed.

Does it drain my battery?

NOW uses precise location only while you're open to meet or walking over to someone. The rest of the time it uses low-power location, and you can mute nearby nudges whenever you like.

How do I get it?
